Producing Superphosphate with Sewage Sludge Ash: Assessment of Phosphorus Availability and Potential Toxic Element Contamination

چکیده
Recovering and recycling phosphorus (P) from sewage sludge ash (SSA) for the purpose of P fertilizer production contributes to reducing input mined phosphate-minerals closing cycle. However, direct use SSA as is often a questionable strategy due its low nutrient efficiency. In addition, environmental risk potential utilizing in agriculture still unclear, particular toxic element (PTE) contamination. this study, mixture rock phosphate was used at lab-scale superphosphate (SP) production. availability final product PTE contamination (Cd, Cr, Cu, Zn, Pb, Ni) soil crop investigated through maize (Zea mays L.) cultivation. Results showed that application SP produced by 25% replacement did not affect growth, uptake, content aboveground compared without replacement. significant inputs with may decrease solid-soil solution partitioning Ni Pb long-term. Separation municipal/industrial removal technology are necessary be implemented prior secondary raw material P-fertilizer

Plant Availability of Phosphorus in Sewage Sludge Compost
Field and greenhouse studies were conducted to compare the effectiveness of Blue Plains sewage sludge compost (BLU), Parkway sewage sludge compost (PAR), and triple superphosphate (TSP) as sources of P for corn. These amendments were applied to a Sassafras sandy loam (T> pic Hapludults) in a field study and to the Sassafras soil and a Christiana silty clay loam (Typic Paleudults) in a greenhous...
متن کاملComparison of phosphorus recovery from incineration and gasification sewage sludge ash.
Incineration of sewage sludge is a common practice in many western countries. Gasification is an attractive option because of its high energy efficiency and flexibility in the usage of the produced gas. However, they both unavoidably produce sewage sludge ashes, a material that is rich in phosphorus, but which is commonly landfilled or used in construction materials. With current uncertainty in...
متن کاملThe molecular environment of phosphorus in sewage sludge ash: implications for bioavailability.
Producing a P fertilizer from sewage sludge ash (SSA) is a strategy to efficiently recycle P from a secondary raw material. The P speciation in four SSAs was characterized before and after the removal of heavy metals by a thermo-chemical treatment that involved CaCl addition. We chose complementary techniques to determine the direct P speciation, including X-ray powder diffraction, solid-state ...
متن کاملtotalmaterial requirement assessment of phosphorus sources from phosphate ore and urban sinks: sewage sludge andmswincineration fly ash
diversification of phosphorus sources can bring substantial synergy effects within all thesustainable development domains: environmental, economic and social, and such an opportunity should not beoverlooked. urban sinks accumulate phosphorus and other elements and may serve as sources of secondaryraw materials. this paper evaluates phosphorus sources based on their total material requirement (t...
متن کاملDrivers of Plant-Availability of Phosphorus from Thermally Conditioned Sewage Sludge as Assessed by Isotopic Labeling
Urban sewage sludge is a potential source of phosphorus (P) for agriculture and represents an alternative way to recycle P as fertilizer. However, the use of thermally conditioned sewage sludge (TCSS) required an accurate assessment of its value as P-fertilizer. This work aimed at assessing the plant-availability of P from TCSS. Uptake of P by a mixture of ryegrass and fescue from TCSS and trip...
